Future Ready Librarians: Empowering Students as Creators In-Person

(Alliance for Excellent Education)

How can school librarians support Future Ready Schools®(FRS)? The Future Ready Librarians (FRL) program responds to this challenge by identifying specific ways librarians can lead, teach, and support personalized student learning. The FRL framework is based on research-based components used by FRS.

This webinar will examine how librarians can empower students as creators. Library leaders will share how they encourage and facilitate students to become increasingly self-directed as they create digital products of their learning that engage them in critical thinking, collaboration, and authentic, real-world problem solving.

In Washington’s Vancouver Public School District, the FRL framework and Project Connect are guiding the work of the district as they reimagine existing library programs and make decisions about future directions. Focusing on these topics has given them great insight into leading beyond the library and what it means to be a librarian in the digital age.

In this webinar, Traci Chun will

  • tell her story about opening a Makerspace to support students creating and tinkering;
  • show and explain how Vancouver’s library changed to support the creators within their community by modeling, collaborating, and co-teaching creation apps and interactive learning opportunities; and
  • explain the district’s vision and plan for building a community of creators.

Librarians, district leaders, and all educators are invited to view this webinar to learn more about the FRL program and how Ms. Chun is empowering students as creators. Ms. Chun also will address questions from the online audience.
